Railway Photographs by Andrew Bannister
Welcome
Welcome to my gallery of railway photographs. This site is under development, but over time I hope to show my collection of images taken from the 1970s right up to the present day. With a large amount of archive material to sort and scan, it's going to take time for the site to develop, but please do make regular visits to see what's new.

The content of the site will focus on the scenic lines of North and Mid Wales and along the Welsh Marches, which has been my "patch" for many years.

I owe a great deal to my father, the late Geoff Bannister who introduced me to the hobby and provided inspiration, sound guidance, resources and good company. He is sadly missed and as a small tribute, I hope to include some of his material too.

I would also like to thank Richard Jones for his help in setting up this website and scanning many of the slides . Richard has an excellent website which contains high quality contemporary material of the Cambrian, Central Wales and Marches lines. Well worth a look.

All the colour archive images which will appear on this site were taken with an Olympus OM1 and various Zuiko prime lenses onto either Kodachrome 25 or 64 and later Fuji Velvia film. Monochrome images were taken with the same equipment, using either FP4 or XP1 filmstock.

All images from 2007 onwards have been taken in digital format with a Nikon D80 and Nikkor lenses.

I hope you enjoy the pictures - please feel free to contact me using the Leave a Message function.

By the time the tour returned from Aberystwyth, the weather had deteriorated somewhat. D444 “Exeter” slogs up Talerddig bank returning with Spitfire Tours’ 1Z51 16.13 Aberystwyth to Bristol Temple Meads “The Cambrian Mountaineer”. However, all is not what is seems as the 50 was low on coolant and is receiving rear end assistance from 97301 and 37676 “Loch Rannoch”.
